How can I get him fired? Any ideas?

Yea it sounds harsh but before you judge let me explain. He is lazy, does not know what he is doing no matter how many times he is trained. He comes to work high from weed. Brings weed to work so he can sell it. I work in a hospital where it is very important that we do our job right for the patients. I have complained to my supervisor about his laziness but it has not changed. I don't mean to be mean but he needs to go. He started off in laundry and somehow got the job as a patient tech. How can I get him fired? And once again before you judge, if you were a patient in the hospital would you want someone who was high and doesn't know what the heck they're doing taking care of you? I wouldn't either. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Jamie, the human resources department and supervisors are worried about lawsuits so they have to have documentation that this guy is an incompetent. They also don't want him bringing up the lack of training for him not knowing what to do in any grievance procedure they might have if they do try to fire him. You aren't a supervisor so you can not fire him. Someone with authority has to fire him according to the procedures spelled out by human resources. He does not need a license to be a patient tech so you can not go to a state licencing board. Your supervisor might not want to expose the dirty linen in the department, because it will make him/her look bad.

A patient complaint or incident will get him noticed as Amers wrote.

Re the weed. As spunk113 wrote it all depends upon the hospital's employee drug policy. Check the employee handbook about who you are suppose to report impaired employees to. I would also check to see what you are suppose to do about suspected drug selling on the premises. You might report that to security vs. human resources.

Jamie, be careful. Whistle-blowers are sometimes the victims. They might decide to get rid of you instead of him. Another thing to consider- he might have "friends" in high places.

I completely agree with you, if i went to a hospital i wouldnt want him taking care of me or my family/friends.

Anyways, my idea would be this. When my friend was working the supervisor usually had like little tasks and a checklist to see if youre working properly, so ask the supervisor if they could do that and maybe then he'll see that this guy is just a lazy smoker.

Or if you know that he's high, tell him that the supervisor needs to talk to him and he'll go to the supervisor high. Then if the supervisor said why'd you tell him to go to me, just be like he's high i didint tell him anything. But then again there's such a thing as karma, he'll get what he deserves evantually.

Have any patients complained to you? If they do then refer them to the supervisor instead of just listening. And don't cover up or pick up the slack anymore for him. Eventually he will have to be fired.

Hmm, what's your hospital's drug policy? Because I'm pretty sure if they did a surprise drug test he'd fail and be out the door.
