My dog is getting snappy, help?

Only recently my little cousins have been coming over quite a lot. We have to give them a lot of attention because they are quite badly behaved and always fight each other (girl- 8 & boy- 7) and I'm not sure if my dog was missing the attention or if he was just annoyed by them because they always scream and shout. One day he got really snappy at the boy and tried to bite his head (he didn't touch him but the boy started crying his eyes out) then the girl went up to my dog and started laughing and he jumped up and bit her lip and she bled a little bit). every time they come around he gets snappy we normally bring him to my grandmas house as she lives across the road. What can I do to stop him from snapping in the case of another event like this?

The 'screaming and shouting' you hear would be 10 times worse for a dog with sensitive hearing. Imagine you standing next to a jack hammer and having a headache at the same time. You would not be 'nice' around anyone either. Put your dog in a room away from the kids or make them play outside.

Dogs that don't normally live around kids can react, much as biting is a tad extreme!! This was a situation that, with respect, could have been avoided had you been right there to superse what was going on and seen that these two charging around with their high-pitched voices etc. could well have upset your dog. After the first attempt to bite, why didn't you remove the dog!!! This is exactly how tragedies happen.

As you know your dog isn't happy with these kids there, either stop them from coming in (and for sure, they need to be told how to behave around the dog), or confine him to either his crate, or another area of the house. And tell these kids NOT to touch him.

Please don't let another tragedy happen because if your dog bites he may well be destroyed.

You should be constantly supervising, keeping them separated. And teach the kids how to behave properly around a dog. No dog will put up with unintended abuse from a child and you will end up being sued and the innocent dog will be euthanized. Socialize/train your dog and/or seek professional help for yourself on how to train properly.

what kind of dog is is? how big? many small dog breeds dislike kids. kids can play to rough and annoy the dogs. they also do not know how to properly hold or touch the dogs.. larger breeds should be properly looked after around kids and be kid friendly. that does not mean experiment with the kids and see if they are friendly but make sure your larger dog tolerates pulling and tugging on his fur or tail... kids and dogs are mostly a no no unless properly introduced or if raised together.
