Multiple choice: Suppose a great sadness has come into your life which you feel you cannot bear?

A friend tells you about a free counseling service which has never failed to aid and comfort many others. You call the counselor. The phone rings and rings with no answer and you finally hang up. What is the most likely explanation?

A) The counselor is sitting by the phone but not answering in order to test your faith in him

B) The counselor is qualified and able to help you but just doesn't feel like it right now

C) The counselor will not answer because he wants you to profit by the spiritual strength that only comes through suffering

D) The counselor will eventually help you, first you have to die though.

E) The counselor is not home

    G) They did pick up, and were listening, but you only heard the ringing in your head and hung up on them.

All of the greatest counselors will listen far more than they speak. Try speaking more next time. If you know your call went to the right place, which I'm sure it did, then tell them about all your troubles. Often, especially in times of distress, we look for immediate answers/fixes when that is not always the best option. Pour out your heart and soul to your new "counselor", this alone will give some relief. Then, in turn, make sure you listen for any responses, be receptive to them. But realize that your speaker volume is turned down very low. It will take some time before you can learn to listen well enough to hear it. In the mean time, continue the practice of pouring out your heart unto [the counselor] and trust that he will help you when the time is right.

In the midst of your sadness, your sense of timing will be off. It will seem like everything should be solved right now or it may be too late. But [the counselor] knows what he's doing. He's very wise and very good at his job. He's helped all these people in the past, remember? Trust him. Rely on him. Your problem may not be solved instantly, but it will be resolved in time, but not if you give up on him. Take care, and I wish you all the best.

Realistically, if you are talking about any kind of public assistance or social service; there is probably 1 social worker (counselor) who gets about 60 calls every 5 minutes. And you get put on hold for what seems like a eternity for a question that takes maybe 2 minutes to answer.

***a free counseling service which has never failed to aid and comfort many others.***

Given that such a thing does not, and could not exist, I would be quite skeptical about calling in the first place.
