What movie was this movie from the 90s or late 80s?

I have a really vague memory about it, so Google hasn't been too useful. A few details I remember are about a guy who is in love with this girl, but he dies (I think). However, something happens and he is alive but he's like a zombie and is decaying. He is fully conscious and retains his personality. There was this scene where he's making out with said girl and his ear falls off.
