    Sort of.

You cannot get pregnant until you ovulate again. Unless you use OPKs (which only detect a LH surge, not ovulation itself) or have ultrasounds you won't know you are ovulation until you receive your period. Your period, is your bodies way of disposing of the non fertilized egg released during ovulation and the lining of your womb in which the egg would have attached if it had been fertilised.

If you happened to conceive when you first begin to ovulate, you won't then receive what would have been your first period if conception hadn't occurred. So in that respect. Yes you can fall pregnant without having a period first.

To add, a woman can get her period within a year of giving birth. Some women may get their period within a month or two. Breastfeeding can delay ovulation and by extension, your periods. If you BF then you can reasonably expect your periods to take longer to return than a woman who does not breastfeed.

Yes you can have sex. (providing it has been 4+ weeks since birth and/or postpartum bleeding has stopped. Tears are healed etc) But as I stated above, you won't know that she has ovulated until her period comes, so if she does not wish to become pregnant again then you should use protection.

No it's not she will get a period with in a year for sure and you should use something to protect unless you want to risk that chance. If she's breast feeding this can be a form of contraception not 110% though.

After a woman gives birth, it is usually a month or longer before she starts her periods, when she does get her periods, then she can start on thinking about getting pregnant. And after the doctor gives her the ok.
