Renters Insurance for broken fridge?

Recently, my apartment's refrigerator and freezer kept on randomly not cooling the inside. I lost pretty much all the foods that were in there. My apartment came furnished, with the refrigerator as part of it. If I have the Amica Renters Insurance, would they cover the cost of my lost food?

There might actually be some coverage for losses due to mechanical breakdown, but you'll need to read the policy to determine if you have that coverage. You would have needed to add this coverage specifically to a renter's policy most likely.

Either way, your loss will be below the deductible.

No, this isn't a covered peril. The only time you get refrigerated food spoilage coverage (and then, only if you bought the endorsement), is if the food spoils due to an off premises power failure.

It depends on what your deductible is. It might, but if you have a $500 deductible, it won't be worth filing a claim for it.

Ask your agent. Don;t be surprised though if i's not covered.

    They cover losses, not repairs.
