Are mushrooms a type of animal?

My friend said that they are not a plant or animal but are a "fungus" (I think he made up that word, LOL). They seem more like animals to me. What are they?!?

They are a fungus. Which is not a made up word. It is a type of organism. If you know anything about cell biology you will know that there are animal, plant, FUNGUS, and bacteria cells. And as mushrooms have fungus cells, they are fungus!

Pffft - "Animal"?! Who are you trying to kid, Cletus? That's not a real word either. It's one of those made-up things comedians say, like margarine, or kaleidoscope, or hippopotamus.

Of course mushrooms aren't a kind of "animal". They're not plants, either, as everyone knows. They're actually houses for those little pixie thingys that fly around in the woods - you know, like Tinkerbell. It says so right in the name: Mush-room. Room, right?
