Why did my gynecologist already set me up with an appointment with a surgeon before my mammogram and ultrasound?

Update:

My gynecologist found a lump recently at my annual exam. I forget how big she thinks it is. Anyway, she referred me get a mammogram and ultrasound of the right breast. Then she got me an appointment with a surgeon. None of these have occured yet. I was just wondering why I have an appointment with the surgeon already when they aren't sure what exactly I have.

Update 2:

It is quite obvious why I don't call, isn't it? It is Saturday and I cannot call until Monday. So I was wondering if anyone who has been through this before had any insight. Curiosity.

    Why are you asking us when you could just ring your gynecologist and get a useful answer?

    What if you just rang up the gynaecologist to find out directly?

    @Ronaldo - I think you're projecting your own insecurities about your anatomy on to others - man up (if you can ;)
