If my child gets in legal trouble while at a "sleep-over", can I sue the parent who was supposedly watching her for my fees and damages?

Update:

Just talking about small claims court. Because due to her negligence (i.e. not supervising as she inherently is agreeing to do when you allow another child to sleep in your home), I have now incurred monetary losses that I feel like are her fault. Has anyone ever heard of this working?

Thanks

    Not likely you'd win.

Besides, wouldn't it be better to direct your anger at the person actually responsible - YOUR KID? Maybe start wondering why they make such bad decisions. Don't teach the kid things are other people's fault. Teach them that they have to take personal responsibility for their actions. Make said kid get a job and pay your for your legal costs.

depends but probably not. if your child does something illegal that any reasonable child of that age knows to not do -- and especially if they sneak to do it -- that's not on them, it's on you.

example: sneaks out at 1am while adults are sleeping and is caught whilst stoned out of her mind over at the shopping center. you'd lose the case
