Is the reason the murder of 3 Muslims by an atheist getting so much attention because it is such a rare event?

If the murders had been committed by a Christian would the crime be receiving as much publicity, or would it have been lost among the dozens of other murders committed by Christians on a daily basis? If the murders had been committed by a Christian, and garnered national attention, how many right wing extremists would be trying to spin it as a "good American trying to defend his country from potential terrorists"?

How does anyone know that the guy the news is telling everyone murdered 3 people, did, in fact, murder 3 people? The news has been wrong before and destroyed lives like Richard Jewell.

God's Law and American Law demands a court trial where the accused has an opportunity to present their case and the state has to prove the guilt.

God's Law demands that one witness is not enough to convict a person and two or more witnesses must present their testimony and that testimony must be diligently investigated before a conviction of guilt. Deuteronomy 19 KJV

Also, in Deuteronomy 19 KJV, there are differentiations between accidental killing, passion killing, (neither of those are considered by God to be crimes deserving punishment), and pre-meditated cold blooded murder of strangers, which God considers to carry capital punishment.

If capital punishment is the possible punishment of a guilty conviction, then if any witnesses are found to be false witnesses, they face the death penalty for being willing to lie and put someone else's life on the line. False witnesses get the punishment they were hoping to frame an innocent person for.

Each person who continues to say that a person is guilty of pre-meditated murder before they have had a chance to present their defense and any witnesses have been heard from, is potentially bearing false witness.

If you wouldn't like to be judged by the world based on news reports instead of a court trial, then don't do it to other people. Also, facebook and twitter accounts have been totally hacked. Those posts are not a reliable witness in a court of Law, unless there is sure way to know those computers were not hacked. Even The White House twitter account that has the most sophisticated encryption abilities was hacked. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2015-01-12/wh...

Matthew 7:1 KJV Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Matthew 7:12 KJV Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets

A hate crime is a hate crime is a hate crime. If a Christian had done it, it would be the same motive. Atheism isn't the motive, genocidal hatred, tribalism, "othering," and racism are. (I don't buy "parking dispute" removed from othering them as subhuman enough to kill.) Also the murder's GUN-fondling, let's not forget that. He couldn't have murdered 3 younger, fitter people so easily without his precious gun. He paraded around the neighborhood with his weapon visible previous to the murders to intimidate people. Right wingers fantasize about doing exactly what this guy did every single day. Our media fantasizes about it and glorifies it (American Sniper). It's to the point I'm surprised more Americans aren't murdering Muslims in the streets. People wonder why Obama keeps saying things to try to dissuade anti-Muslims sentiments!? THIS is why. Americans, all Americans, atheist and theist, need a cold hard look at themselves in the mirror.

Jesus said, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." Some who claim the name Christian might commit murder, but someone who is following Christ has no justification for such an act.

For what it's worth, I don't think this man committed murder "in the name of atheism" either. Seems like he had an ongoing conflict with these people and reached the conclusion that murder was the answer.

Why are they claiming he was an atheist when whilst he posted against religion it simply cannot be said he is actually an atheist! Look at the terrible from Christians against others that believe differently to themselves on here! Does that make them atheist? Of course not!

The shooting was a result of a long standing argument about parking and not religion!

But of course when Christians try to use the atheist label it draws attention to the fact there has never been a war in the name of atheism and indeed as far as we know not even a murder in that name but Christianity alone has been responsible for so much far worse!

    Biblical wars.

    Crusades.

    Inquisition.

    WWII -

Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord. - Adolf Hitler

My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter.

    - Adolf Hitler

As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people. - Adolf Hitler

George W Bush started FIVE wars in less than eight years stating each time that it was his "God Given Duty” and in 2001 even called it a Crusade!

Not his duty to the electors!

    Not his duty to America!

Just his duty to keep slaughtering heathens for his god!

News must have followers in order to generate advertising revenue. To do this, they push key words, buzz words, etc. that will get people to read and/or follow it, share, click through to a website, share, whatever. They are just pushing whatever buttons they can to get viewership/readership. No more, no less. The fact that this nut job is a self-proclaimed atheist really has nothing to do with it, any more than let's say he tends to eat the McFish sandwich on Tuesdays.

Christians aren't murdering anyone unless you have missed the headlines lately. It is usually Muslims who are radical Islamic terrorists doing the murdering.

I think it's because the murder was over something as stupid and small as a parking space.

it would still get news coverage if it was a christian

no one would be trying to spin it off as a good american trying to defend his country from potential terrorists

no its getting much attention because the man killed 3b peaceful people over a parking dispute.

Doesn't honestly matter the religion of the killer. Mentally unstable, clearly, regardless of belief.

    Are you kidding?

Isn't it like every other day some deranged American starts shooting a place up?
