How do i change the cell background color in excel?

need more than 2 different colors depending on the text in the cell.

is there any way i can create a user defined function to dynamically change the cell color depending on text? not numerical value, text.

    Let's say the cells contain "Yes" or "No".

    1. Select the cells, select 'Conditional Formatting', 'Highlight Cell Rules', 'Text that contains...'.

    2. In the box type Yes, and choose the format you want. Click OK

    Repeat 1. above. Now, in the box type No, and choose a format. Click OK

    Conditional Formatting can be far more complicated than this. I've just given you a basic to answer your question.
