    Yes, they are equal.

    -x = 5

    -x/-1 = 5/-1

    x = -5

    -5 = x

    -x = 5

    -x/-1 = 5/-1

    x = -5

    They are both x = -5

    Checking for -x = 5:

    -x = 5

    -(-5) = 5

    5 = 5

    Checking for -5 = x:

    -5 = x

    -5 = -5

    The value of x is -5.

    yes because if you solve -x=5 you divide by -1 each side and you will end up with x=-5
