how can I be exempted for on state taxes on my payroll. thanks?

    And you can claim to be exempt from your states income tax amount at all on your state withholding form for that purpose for the 2015 tax year.

    Depending on what state you live in, you might or might not be able to. Some states have a form that works for state tax like the W-4 for federal.

    Probably not.

    States have a "pay as you go" system like the IRS. If you owe too much at tax time, you can get hit with a penalty.

    Where I live, the penalty kicks in at only $500.

    What state taxes? State law determines what is taxable and what isn't so if you pay the wages whatever taxes are due have to be paid too.

    The L-4 form does not give you such an option. You must fill it out correctly. If you are single and have no dependnents, you get ONE deduction.

    You fill out the state equivalent of the federal W-4 accordingly.
