What are some good cameras for recreational photography?
I want to buy a nice camera, and start taking pictures. My purpose is mainly for personal reasons, but I'd like to take photography of scenery, nature, people, and cars (just giving some ideas of what I want to use it for). Something with good quality, and wont run me over $500. I dont know much about cameras at all, so please help me out, thank you!

There's a ton of options at your price range. Anything from high-end pocket cameras like the very good Canon G1x, to interchangeable mirrorless cameras like the amazing Sony A5000, A6000.
Your budget will get you an entry-level DSLR like the Pentax K50 (best in its class), but you'll soon go over your $500 budget once you start adding accessories like flash, cards, filters, bags and tripods.
Which one you get depends on how much control you'll want when taking pictures. The type of scene that you've listed aren't difficult things to shoot. If you get a camera with a built-in lens, then you should look at the Sony RX100 - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/869238-REG/S...
If you want small and interchangeable lenses, these from Sony and Fujifilm are the best - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Brand_S...
If you want a DSLR, then the Pentax K50 is probably the best in this price range. Canon and Nikon certainly make the best advanced to pro-level DSLRs, but at the entry-level game, Pentax is very hard to beat.
