There is talk about preserving the quality of international cricket.?
It wasn't so long ago we NZ were struggling and for years we were getting beaten by Australia. England, Pakistan and the West Indies are having there struggles but everyone says relegate Bangladesh. Test match status once earnt must never be taken away. Make Ireland, Netherlands and winners of the intercontinental cup the next teams to graduate. Make a development series in NZ to help countries make that transition.

Well I kind of agree with what you said but let's be careful, international status cannot be handed out like lollies.. it has to be earned, and there should be no reason why a team cannot be suspended for poor performance. I don't have a problem with Bangladesh...they might not win many but they have improved enough to justify playing Test and ODI. As for Test cricket there is no team even remotely qualified for inclusion, Ireland and Scotland does not even have a first class domestic comp the game is played only on an amateur weekend club level, same for Netherlands, so it seems we will never have more than 10 Test playing countries which is fine since some countries barely get to play each other more than once a decade as it is so any additional teams would be unworkable.
ODI may be a different story, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Ireland continue to improve while England, Pakistan and West Indies struggle to match what they had 30 years ago and Zimbabwe seem to have stalled in their progress. Netherlands, Canada and Kenya went into decline and continue to go backwards in the rankings.
I would like to see Ireland and Afghanistan play a couple of ODI series each year against good teams but the calendar is so congested it seems impossible to add more matches to an overloaded system already groaning under the strain, the only way to give developing teams more matches seems to be to take them off Australia, India and England so I don't think that would be a popular choice with the ICC, making a profit is the limiting factor and they have budgets planned many years in advance.

What you earn doesn't stay forever with you.Bangladesh aren't doing justice with their test status ,they hardly play test matches let alone winning them .I agree West indies is also under performing but not as bad as Bangladesh
and we can't accommodate Ireland and Netherlands among st our ranks without throwing somebody out otherwise each team will have to wait a long time to play with particular team or the lowest ranked test team will always be neglected by teams like Australia ,England

Yes, on one side the quality of international cricket should be mantained but how can you expect a minnow to become an international side without giving them the required exposure. I think these new teams should be given more such chances to flourish their talent.
