Why are state police officers so intimidating? More so than street cops?

Update:

Like the nypd tend to wanna puff up their chests. Some town cops who are older are mean. I don't know much about police officers who frequently have to deal with street situations. Or those who work in police stations.

Update 2:

State police give lots of speeding tickets. Why all this para-military training just for that?

They are better trained in handling any situation because they are more likely to confront more dangerous events. Think of street cops as the National Guard and State Police as The Marines!

Update 2 They often go in in situations in small towns/counties and they are the ones who respond to all state prison problems be they hostage situations or full blown riots.

Working patrol in a city, handling domestics, murders down to shopfitters you have to be able to get people to do what needs to be done.

AS to troopers I have never heard that they are more intimidating than my city police from the public or from troopers themselves.

"street cops" are probably County police and state police is more serious. most county police acts end up in court or settled on site. state police usually can end up in jail or prison
