OMG. I read in what I thought was a liberal site that God has instituted capital punishment and our Jesus was for it?

Update:

I think that living in solitary confinement for the rest of ones life is far worse than death. An eye for eye and a tooth for a tooth means a just punishment for the crime and cap punishment is not equal to murder.

    No surprise.

New Testament Death Penalty Support Overwhelming

    Dudley Sharp

For more than 2000 years, there has been Christian New Testament support for the death penalty, from Popes, Saints, Doctors and Fathers of the Church, church leadership, biblical scholars and theologians that, in breadth and depth, overwhelms any teachings to the contrary.

"All interpretations, contrary to the biblical support of capital punishment, are false. Interpreters ought to listen to the Bible’s own agenda, rather than to squeeze from it implications for their own agenda. As the ancient rabbis taught, “Do not seek to be more righteous than your Creator.” (Ecclesiastes Rabbah 7.33.). Part of Synopsis of Professor Lloyd R. Bailey’s book Capital Punishment: What the Bible Says, Abingdon Press, 1987.

Saint (& Pope) Pius V, "The just use of (executions), far from involving the crime of murder, is an act of paramount obedience to this (Fifth) Commandment which prohibits murder." "The Roman Catechism of the Council of Trent" (1566).

Pope Pius XII: "When it is a question of the execution of a man condemned to death it is then reserved to the public power to deprive the condemned of the benefit of life, in expiation of his fault, when already, by his fault, he has dispossessed himself of the right to live." 9/14/52.

i believe death of murderers and worse crimes are mentioned in the bible to be the cause of capital punishment. the murderer by man shall be put to death, however if you realize that Cain was not put to death, shows that there are exceptions. there are exceptions for accidental murder also. those who kill a baby in the womb are also scrutinized to be put to death. now, when it comes to the death of jesus, he was blameless and perfect without sin, so they say. the jews made plenty of accusations with false witnesses for some of the things jesus did, but none of them did they kill him. Jesus himself said even said they did try to kill him, and few men tried to capture him and throw him off the "cliff". but even God blinded their eyes. God might sentence the entire world, except saints, to death, for the crimes and sins "THEY" do. anyone of us probably deserves to die. and the most pure among us, see to die at very young ages. but in death of the innocent there is heaven and exaltation, especially the youngest. for the worst of the murderers, while some are forgiven, the rest will go away into the lake of fire and then outer darkness.

God gives the right of capital punishment to the civil governments, the right to mankind to defend themselves, their wives, children and homes. Killing is not wrong, only murder is (to kill with no lawful excuse),

Of course the Nazarene was for capital punishment. He was a Jew and Judaic law required stoning people to death for violating the law.
