Dad passed last month.?

Add what religion you are first. And tell me what you think about consciousness after death. Would I be able to talk to him somehow as of right now? Or do I have to wait until death? Is everything he had yet to tell me gone with the wind?

I am truly so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels. Have had many beloved friends and family fallen asleep in death.

I'm a Christian and I believe what the Creator of the human body let's us know in Ecclesiastes 9:5 that "the dead know nothing at all." And in verse 10 it further says "there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave."

I miss them much. One day at a time. I know they're not suffering or missing us somehow. And I draw great comfort from the hope of the resurrection, being brought back to life. Not in a distant heaven, but right here on a changed earth. Isa 45:18;Ps 37:9-11,29;Acts 24:15;Isa 33:24;Rev 21:4)

Then I can hug them once again and we can pick up where we left off...

    All the best. Sincerely, E

Sorry to hear about your dad. I bet you would really like to be able to see him again and give him a huge hug.

I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The Bible tells us the state of the dead.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 states "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all"

However, that does not mean he will always be dead. The Bible speaks of a resurrection of the dead to live right here on earth.

Revelation 20:12, 13 describe this resurrection to some extent also read John 5:25-30

What will the world be like then? Psalm 37:9-11, Isaiah 11:9-13 and Isaiah 55:12,13.

Hope you can find some comfort in these scriptures. I know when my parents died I searched for Jehovah and found him. He truly is the God of all comfort. - 2 Corinthians 1:3,4

    Not religious.

Nobody can say for sure whether or not consciousness exists after death, but there isn't any evidence of it. So I have no reason to believe in consciousness after death. It's just as likely as the possibility of any other random occurrence you can think of that has no evidence.

As far as talking to him now goes, some people say they can do it, and they've all either been proven to be con artists or they haven't proven it. Feel free to try as long as you don't sacrifice much money for it. Maybe it only works if you're not skeptical and you're not trying to test it, as many of these people claim in order to make the claim unfalsifiable. But it could be true.

Sadly, I think your latter statement is the most likely possibility. Sometimes it can be almost surreal to think about the idea that the person is completely gone, but unless evidence suggests otherwise, that's what it looks like. Perhaps rather than trying to communicate with him, or hope of seeing him again, you can be comforted by the stuff you've done in the past. You can try to remember the things he's told you and re-experience some of your memories with him. That's one thing that we know is real, and that is possible to recapture to some degree.

Anyway I'm really sorry to hear about that and I wish you luck.

    Christian

You can't contact your dad in this life, lest God decides to show you him, which is rare. If you try to find someone who claims to be able to reach him from the dead you're more likely to see a demon disguised as him.

I understand it's difficult, I'll be very sad when my dad dies. Take time to mourn, and keep your friends and family close.

I pray that God will call for you and you will listen. The apostles weren't talking about the distant past when they preached of the ressurection of Jesus Christ, but an event that happened in their lifetime, right where they lived. But despite persecution hundreds believed them and the faith spread throughout the Roman Empire.

Yes, when you die it's as if the world never was and you never were. Sorry, that's life (and death). That might sound a bit barren and cruel but what could be crueler than telling a child that when he dies he will go to a place called heaven and live with a 2000 year old dead Jewish carpenter?

I am really sorry for your loss, T.

No living person can really tell what happens after we die, even if they seem very sure of it. Really, no one can tell because we still haven't gone through that phase yet. Only the dead have found out what happens after we die. So don't speculate or assume.

The Bible says: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5; Psalm 146:4) Therefore, when we die, we cease to exist. The dead can’t think, act, or feel anything.

Pagan. I think there's probably something hereafter. I think if you want to talk to him in prayer, go for it.
