Program to trace ip address?

So I'm pretty tech savvy, but not so much in networking. I know the tricks to get ip addresses through email and making a tiny url for someone to click on. Cain and Abel is good, but I can't find anything other than through xbox live. I DO have a second computer (apparently it needs 2 sources). However, there are a **** ton of IPs and not the person's I'm looking for. Is there a way to do this in Cain? Or other software?

You might as well hire a hacker to help you do what you want because it's not easy to trace an IP address. IP addresses can be changed, hidden, or you could see an IP address that you think belongs to someone, but the IP address belongs to someone else. A decoy IP address can also be used to hide someone's real IP address.

Frankly in my opinion, I think since there are different options to mislead someone, then it can be difficult to trace an IP address.

You could try to type the IP address in the google seach engine to see what kind of results you get, but there are no guarantees you will be able to successfully trace an IP address.

The area where you would type the IP address is inside the small rectangle box near the middle of google's home web page.

"not the person's I'm looking for."

People do not have an IP address. They borrow an IP address when they connect to a network.

This can be changed at anytime by the network. At least three IP addresses I have used today are probably being used by someone else now.

You are probably using the sniffing part of Cain and Abel. You can't sniff for ALL ips, you only see

broadcast ones and ones intended for your port. That is how a switch works.

You need a managed switch to port mirror even stuff on your network.

ip addresses change all the time, i have a firewall that can log anything going in and out from but behind your typical router you wont see any of that especially using a packet sniffer.
