Homophobia - although not exclusively a religious problem....?

Do you think it will only become a globally unpopular opinion when the major faiths embrace it, rather than preach against it?

If you keep religions out of it, the only argument against homosexuality is that it's 'unnatural' or 'gross'. That nothing is suppose to go in an anus and that that would end up causing problems with the colon. But most people are against gay male sex, not lesbianism. Two women together is 'hot'.

But homosexuality has been around for thousands of years. Greeks had bath houses where married men went to to be with men. Pagans even had gay and bisexuals among them. Not all ancient religions were against it. Today, I don't know how all religions see it, like Hindus, Buddhists, Taos, etc.

I don't know how the USA can ever deal with any issue with religious people bring their faiths into it. Like with abortion as well. I am Catholic and understand that when you follow a religion, that should come first in your life, in your decisions. God should be first. So it's hard to not bring it up in talking about issues. Even simple issues like how to teach people. Devoted people should bring their religion's views into their decisions. But in the USA where we have separation of church and state, if us religious people want things done, we can't bring up our religion. If we want abortion illegal, we can't talk about God, just facts. If we want gays to not have the right to be married, we can't say what the bible says about it. That will only cause problems.

Eventually religious groups will need to stop their hate or risk looking really bad. That's what happened with racism and segregation. Churches that had been teaching that segregation was part of God's plan had to switch gears and lose their official racism once enough of society tipped the other way and they started to look like hate-filled bigots to just about everyone. The same will happen with homophobia. In another 20-30 years the churches that are now proudly proclaiming that they're following God's law will do an about-face and proudly proclaim that they've always preached love and acceptance of gays. We've seen that happen over and over again.

I think most religions disapprove homosexuality, because most religions rose in post neolithic times when humanity faced some demography issues (short lifespan, hight infant mortality).

Every birth was a chance, every homosexual was a threat.

For this reason, they enacted laws against homosexuality

Nowadays, thousands of years later we're facing overpopulation, but some people still follow Stone Age laws.

Homosexuality is becoming a point of murder for many governments and it is hard to blame them. Gays are becoming more anti-society by the day.

On the contrary, the evidence indicates that "committed" homosexual relationships are radically different from married couples in several key respects:

    relationship duration

    monogamy vs. promiscuity

    relationship commitment

    number of children being raised

    health risks

    rates of intimate partner violence

I think that it is human nature to attempt to use peer pressure to force people to not be different. Religion provides a support mechanism, instead of admitting they have a problem, people can claim to be representing god's will.

I have included a link to a story about the increasing numbers of evangelicals supporting gay marriage, it may interest you.

True! Homophobia is not exclusively religious!

Sociologists that I have read have stated that homophobes often have concerns about their own sexuality and the defense mechanism called denial kicks in. They ease their anxiety by bashing gays Some justify it with their interpretation of religion.

We all experience same sex thoughts, especially the sexually immature adolescent.

There is but one God--so it matters not what millions of gods or goddesses think according to their followers. God on the other hand has made it clear that he finds the acts of homosexuality an abomination. He and he alone is the high authority.

Homophobia is just term used to label someone as a bigot while trying to control what others think. The gay agenda will not tolerate disagreement.
