Why do people Vote Democrat when the economy is bad, And vote Republican when the economy is Good?

So basically when America or Americans are in trouble, they vote demoract, and when the water is running great, the vote republican, so basically is like a cycle

Democrats have historically been known to be better at the economy - historically because of the New Deal, but also more recently with the strong economic years in the 90's during the Clinton administration.

Republicans when the economy is good, offer tax cuts and use culture war tactics to rile up voters.

One right answer so far. People have poor memories. The Republicans promise them everything but never deliver. When the Repubs mess up, we get a Democratic president to clean up the mess.

The Democrats have consistently done better with the economy for at least 100 years. And five of the last six Republican presidents have recessions named after them, and that's only because Nixon and Ford split one!

In theory, conservatism is about maintaining the status quo; staying the course. So when democrats make things better, clean up conservative messes, the people forget that conservatives wrecked up the place and decide to vote for people who won't change things.

In the 2014 midterms, the people weren't told that the economy was doing better than at anytime under Bush, and didn't bother to find out for themselves. When the unemployment rate was under 6%, most Americans thought it was over 30%.

The American people have memory problems. And because Republicans don't DO anything, they can spend all their time figuring out new ways of cheating, suppressing votes, gerrymandering districts, lying about the Prez every day, creating fake scandals...on and on.

You know how many people thought Obama had "doubled the deficit?" When the FACT was he had cut it by 2/3? Far too many. It's nauseating, actually.

Fox News says, "Net neutrality is government controlling how you use the internet." UM...it's actually quite the opposite. But there are many dumbos out there who just swallow it, hook line and sinker. No questions asked.

Fox News reported that Obama "attended a Madrassa." CNN corrected them by having a JOURNALIST work on the story, but by then, a million Fox News dumbo viewers decided it was real.

They do this ALL DAY EVERY DAY. If the TRUTH actually mattered in this country, there would be very few Republicans in office, and there would be no Fox News.

    That is not really true.

Teh economy was sucking ballz when Reagan first got elected, but it was doing good when he got re-elected, and REALLU ggood when Bush Sr got elected, and he would have been re-elected if Ross Perot had not come along and split the conservative vote.

The economy did pretty good during most of the Clinton years, but was going into recession when Bush Jr was elected, adn brough back out gang-busters , but collapsed in the mortgage debacle.

Whcich we are really still suffering from because of opbama's pathetic policies.

They vote for Democrats until they get pissed, so they vote for Republicans for a change, and that lasts until they get pissed and vote Democrat again... it's a pendulum.

Frankly, if more people understood their own damn politics and had some understanding of civics beyond 9th grade level, they'd be more responsible with their votes.

Yea you're completely cherry picking. Reagan got elected when there wasn't only a deep recession but there was huge inflation, which is harder to deal with then a regular recession.

Because they know they need adults back in charge when Repubs once again f*** up our economy.

Interesting, because so far the only ones that have benefited from the Obama reign is the 1% and the Middle East.
