Would you say it s better to buy a Trek bike in the U.S. or Korea?
I m in the market for a Trek with disc brakes, and I m currently stationed in Korea. I visited the local bike shop here and they will sell me a new Trek ( I think it was a 2015 model) with hydraulic disc brakes for $520~.
I noticed Trek doesn t make the 3700 anymore, only 3500 and Marlin series. I m not exactly sure which this was that he showed me.
My concern is, I come back to the states in a few months, and I m debating if it s worth it to buy a bike here or back in Florida. I don t know what kind of deals or service schedules are usually offered by Trek dealers stateside, and unfortunately I m not able to call up and ask right now.
I don t know if anyone is familiar with Treks overseas, but if you have any knowledge of the differences, I d appreciate it.

Unless you can get one shipped back to Florida for FREE, you might want to reconsider. Both UPS and Fed-Ex rates from overseas to the USA aren't exactly cheap.
Don't believe me? Ask the bike shop in Korea to take an unopened bike box, weigh & measure it - then call UPS for the cost to ship it to Florida.

I took one of my classic steel framed bicycles to Japan, in June of 2014 (59CM). I purchased a used Serfas Bike Case at the annual bicycle swapmeet ($50) and it cost me $50 for the Air Canada baggage fee. If I would have tried to ship via UPS/or Fed-Ex it would have been nearly $1,000, but as airline baggage in the hard plastic case it was a reasonable cost item to enjoy my Summer Holiday.
You need to check your specific airline route as some airlines will charge more or will have case size dimensions that make a bicycle expensive to travel with and enjoy using at your destination. Tokyo's Narita International Airport also had a specific bicycle assembly area and long term storage facility for your bicycle case.

Yes it will be shipped back for free. But the warranty thing I suppose is my biggest concern. I guess I'll have to determine just exactly how much I'd be saving by buying here.

Will the military ship it to the US when you're transferred back? If so, it might be worth it. If not, the cost of shipping will probably outweigh any savings from buying it while you're overseas.

Quite apart from the cost of shipping would be the warranty. Very often, items bought in another country have no warranty when you move. Unless you are going to ride a lot while you are in Korea, any savings you get on buying there will be more than offset by additional costs of shipping and potential warranty costs
