Why does it seem that all Americans on here are obsessed with Al Gore and Global Warming.?

Al Gore won a Nobel Prize for hyping global warming. Some alarmists like to disown him as if he is irrelevant to the debate, because they know his statements look foolish. However, he has had top level scientific advisers, including Andrew Weaver. To discount Gore as not a scientist, ignores the fact that he has been advised by all these people. What Gore says is essentially the desired statements of the climate science establishment.

Americans are the drama-queens of the Western world. Rather than just read the IPCC reports, listen to their scientists, and draw up action plans, they have to turn it into a soap opera!

Al Gore, Koch Brothers, Michael Mann ... they'll find the people to do guest appearances and run with it for years. Then they'll follow a plot line, only to find it was all a dream, then start back where they left off at least a season later.

Gore was the hero of alarmists and it is hard not to rub their noses in it because we all know they certainly deserve it. Gore was an imbecilic, a hypocrite, and the face of global warming. They have largely thrown Gore under the bus but it is kind of fun to drag his corpse back out of the gutter to remind everyone just what dork he is and how dumb someone would have to be to hang on his every word.

Some people think that Al Gore is some kind of figurehead for anything regarding climate change. Maybe its because he was a politician who spoke publicly about climate change.

Scientists, who are pretty difficult to class as incompetent without making yourself look that way, are hard targets. That's why they are not often directly opposed, especially when they hold degrees in the subjects they study. Its kinda like arguing with a doctor about his knowledge on cancer, when he sees cancerous tumor.

Its easy to do that to an elected official. Some of the denialists on this site rant on a guy who really hasn't been relevant publicly for some time, let alone relevant for any science data.

personally, I've never obsessed about al, but I do wonder about Tipper, what ever happened to her?

I think only people that deny global warming are obsessed with Al Gore, they have a love/hate relationship with him.

The obsession changes on about a weekly basis. One week the anti-science copy-catters rage about Obama and his Islamic conspiracy to raise taxes, then next it's the Greenie plot to prevent plant food from saving us from the imminent ice age, then might it be the turn of "I shoveled three feet global warming off my driveway after the last blizzard, help, the liberal scientists want to fool us by saying climate change instead of global warming," the next fad might be the climategate hide the decline hoax. Most of these are rebutted here: http://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php and most of them are old recycled deceptions from fossil fuel industry front groups. Gore is the fixation every 4 or 5 months or so. It all has zilch to do with science, common sense, or honesty.
