would YOU not award a best answer if you wanted to read continuing answers to your question on yahoo! answers?
mostly i ask questions because i want a pulse on what my fellow americans think and feel. i sort of like the new yahoo! answers feature whereby i do not have to give best answer, because:
1. sometimes 2 answers should each get the best answer, and there is no way to give 50% BA to one, and then 50% BA to the other;
2. i check my questions to determine if there is another answer. IF it really is a best answer, meaning well thought out and providing me with facts, i MIGHT give it a best answer award.
what would you do if you lived in my life? what if you had the goals i have in leaving my questions open? would you leave them open? why or why not? what would you do if two answers were equally best? why?
I WILL AWARD A BEST ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION IF, AS ABOVE, I CAN SEE THAT THE ANSWER IS THOUGHTFUL AND WORTH THE BA.

depending on the time of day, and section you ask, your question is visable for about 3 seconds to a few minutes.
after that it's engulfed in the thousands of other questions that get asked. hardly anyone will trawl the questions sections to answer older questions.
it's best to just mark a best answer after a day or a few hours, because you wont get any more answers after that.

I would still award a best answer because I think that the thought and effort expended to create the best answer deserves some kind of recognition. Good point about the 50-50 situation though. I'm not sure how that could be resolved.

Questions don't close after a Best Answer is chosen any longer. People can still answer, and some do. So I wouldn't let that stop me. Granted, fewer folks answer after a BA is chosen, but then again, questions also get few answers after they leave the front page of a category. Personally, I'd give it at least 24 hours.
