Why can I feel the heat of the sun through double glazed windows if they are supposed to be a good insulator?

They may be good, but not provide complete and total insulation. You need more insulation than glass can provide in order to completely block all heat transfer. Stand behind an insulated wall, for example, and you won't feel any heat from the sun. The sun would be hotter through a single pane window.

I think it is because even though your windows are double glazed, glass

tends to absorb both cold and heat. The house I live in isn't very well

insulated. When I put my hand up near one of the windows it's

almost like I can feel the draft coming through the glass. I phoned a

glass installer about that way back and asked why that would be and

that is what he told me. Glass absorbs heat and cold. Hope that helps.

If the sun is coming directly into the window you naturally will feel some heat. The whole room will not get hot because of it being a good insulator. With that said, it is a good idea to have some sort of window treatment when the sun is shinning in.

Radiation from the sun is what you feel when you are directly in the sun's rays. And double pane windows are a much better insulator than single pane, but in no way are any windows considered a GOOD insulator. Compared to walls they are very poor insulators. But who wants a windowless home?

If they are a good insulator they keep out cold and heat. That is what insulation means.

If the glass isn't low e, which blocks UV, infra red and visible lights, then heat can get through.
