NEW fish tank what do I need for water conditioners?

Prime is okay, but personally I prefer API's QuickStart. You want to add start-up bacteria to help avoid a lot of 'new tank syndrome' issues alongside a water conditioner. The water conditioner will take out chlorine and chloramine found in tap water as well as detoxify heavy metals that may be found in well water. Some water conditioners, depending on brand, will also include an immune booster or stress relief for the fish.

Basically you need to things to start, some kind of water softener (to dissolve the heavy metals that are in tap water, and some type of bacteria enhancer. There are several brands, they are all pretty much the same. You should also test your ph and see if it needs to be adjusted. If you do adjust your ph, make sure you have used the water conditioner to remove heavy metals FIRST or the Ph adjusters won't work

Prime is a product you can add with ever new water change all the time, every time. But it wont add benificial bacteria to help speed the cycle, it can help detoxify nitrates and ammonia for a short period of time, so thats especially good if you are cycling with fish "which i do not recomend"

Prime is the best, it removes chlorine/chloromine and drtoxified ammonia/nitrites/nitrates for 48hrs. Along with this you can also get a beneficial bacteria enhancer, Tetra Quick Start is the best.
