    Have to pay attention to units here. 18 inches is 1.5 feet, 24 inches is 2 feet

    Height of tree a = 5 + 1.5t

    Height of tree b = 3 + 2t

    Where t is in years

    They meet when

    5 + 1.5t = 3 + 2t

    Subtracting 3 from both sides gets us

    2 + 1.5t = 2t

    subtracting 1.5t from both sides get us

    2 = .5t

    t = 2/.5 = 4

    In four years the trees will both be 11 feet tall
