What does France think of Marie Antoinette today?

Do they have more understanding and sympathy for her or is she still the most hated queen?

    Understanding, yes, sympathy, no.

People in France are obvioulsy taught about the events of the revolution and that the Queen was hated by the people. We know she did not really deserve to be killed.

But so many people in History have been killed without deserving it and we still have a dislike of the concept of royalty so she doesn't get more sympathy than any other of the people who died unjustly in History.

Plenty of Parisian cake shops use her name to flog over-priced teas, so I expect they think her name is a nice little earner. I'd be surprised if they knew who she was or could distinguish her from Madame Pompadour.

I think this was more about what she represented than the woman herself? Otherwise I have no idea how the French regard her now. Me thinks that's just history and people do tend to live in the present and what affects them NOW.

Why on earth would they have sympathy and understanding for her. She never blessed them in such a way.
