want to get an ssd?

If I buy an ssd for my laptop do they come with a kit to switch the os and all your data from old hdd to the new ssd or do you have to buy something that does that

    Excellent choice. Give it more speed.

    I have a USB -> SATA adapter (about $40). Then I can use Windows to make the SSD bootable, and clone the hard drive to the SSD.

    Then swap the drive over. Neat, clean, quick, no extra software required.

    ... something like this, if you have the USB 3.0 ports. Lots cheaper (and slower) for USB 2.0.

    Just copy all your data from the HDD that your OS is on to the SSD and then boot from the SSD in the BIOS.

    P.S: Uninstall programs that aren't intensive and you don't use them a lot from your SSD and re-install them on your HDD.
