I think that stylistic similarities do not amount to copyright infringement.

No part of a Marvin Gaye song was copied.

No part of a Marvin Gaye song was sampled.

No derivative work was created based on a Marvin Gaye song.

Copyright infringement is a matter of fact.

The fact is that there was no part of any Marvin Gaye song in 'Blurred Lines'.

    There was no copyright infringement.

It it yet another perverse decision by a broken judicial system.

The outcome would shame Marvin Gaye and has damning implications for all music in the future.

I think it sounds a lot like the original. But it's the type that you can't copyright because it's not part of the melody. So...they shouldn't have been able to win. Didn't Huey Lewis sue the Ghostbusters song for sounding like new drug? It had the same chord progression. Didn't they lose and that was a lot closer?

They should have settled out of court. Most sensible songwriters will negotiate an acceptable deal if a big name challenges their music. They fought it and lost big time. So neither of them is very bright.
