What's wrong with my car?
Hello, I drive a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 2.7L V6 4WD.
The issue I have is a bit odd. it started a couple weeks ago. I noticed that the idle was really low at 500 rpm (normally around 750), when in Park or neutral, the RPMs would keep going up even when my foot was off the gas.
the issue went away on it's own the next day. fast forward a couple weeks or relatively uneventful driving (really low idle comes and goes), and now the car has issues keeping its RPMs stable. they drop off suddenly then pick back up just as quick. a quick look over by a mechanic showed nothing as they didn't find anything though they suggest it may be throttle body or electrical issues.

most common problem is a split air intake hose that runs between the air cleaner and the throttle body. Air is sucked in through the cracks but is not being measured by the airflow sensor on the air cleaner housing causing a false air signal. That means the extra air into the engine is not meeting up with enough fuel from the injectors -poor calucation by the ECM as it doesn't know about the extra air. Squeeze the hose and you will see the the cracks open up all over the place - replace the hose if there are cracks.if not , then replace the TPS - throttle position sensor.

mechanical issues so I know what I'm doing.... If you know what you are doing then I fail to understand why you need to ask this question. Also you received an answer so if you don't like such answers, don't ask the question. I somewhat know my way around cars, just enough to get myself in trouble but not enough to get myself out of trouble. When I don't understand or can't figure it out it always cheaper and better to hire someone for the job that does know what to do.

Perhaps not a "quick look" by a more competent mechanic is in order. Asking here is pointless. Cars are very complex machines. Just search on YouTube as to car factories and prepare to be amazed. A more better car mechanic is required.
