Ovulation or implantation?

Hey ladies I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me?! Me and my husband are trying for a third child. Both my first and second were conceived straight away with not much thought (although both planned and wanted :) ) this time round due to work reasons we've had to pin point our fertile window. Through calculations I'm due to ovulate around the 21st although this evening I've had a sharp pain in my left side (which I've not had before) we had sex on the 15th and was wondering if this sounds more like an ovulation pain or if anyone had this feeling during implantation..despite supposedly not due to ovulate until a few days from now? Although I'm aware it may have happened sooner. Thanks!

Ovulation would usually be halfway between cycles. However, it is possible to get it sooner or later. Try charting your basal body temperature to pinpoint it better. You could get some light cramping on either your left or right side and the cramping doesn't usually last for very long. Mine only last for about five minutes or so. I've never had implantation before, but from what I heard it would be more towards your middle. It also would come around the time of your period and may accompanied by implantation bleeding.

Ovulation generally occurs between 12 & 16 days BEFORE your next expected period, immaterial of cycle length. The twinge(sharp pain) is hopefully a sign of upcoming ovulation !

Implantation is experienced by only around 20% of women 2-4 days before a period & usually involves spotting.

Sex 18 days before a period for 5-6 days, gives the optimum chance of conception.

Very best of luck to you both.
