Diesel engine won't turn off?

This is on a small Mitsubishi dozer. A 4 cylinder 45 horse engine. I have to turn the key about half a dozen times between "Run" and "Off" before the engine stops. Now I can't even get it to stop. Have to put it under a load at low idle to get it to stall.

Should I be checking the ignition switch or somewhere around the injector pump, and what should I look for?

Could be a couple of things. And sorry to hear of your misfortune of owning a Mitsubishi. First thing to check is power at the fuel shut off solenoid located on the injection pump when the ignition switch is in the off position. if still powered up indicates a fault with the ignition switch. or in a worse case scenario an ECM failure, which is why you have my condolences. If no power at the solenoid indicates that the needle and seat within the solenoid is sticking or has worn to the point of failure. In any case will need to be replaced. Good luck.

I'd start with the ignition switch...could be bad contacts in the switch which are allowing power to continue in the circuit. If that tests OK, then possibly check other items in the ignition circuit ...sticking relay for glow plugs?, , etc..
