You are using "theory" in the non-scientific sense anyway ("that's just a theory") and "believe" instead of "belief" for what might be a "hypothesis" in science terms and it probably is junk out of astrology or related guff. Sirius is called the Dog Star and the Dog Days of Summer are attributed to it, so that may be what you are hooking to.
