You have a point. Smallpox may be the key to resisting another debilitating virus or will defend us agains invaders from another planet. On the other hand wiping out the disease definitely improves the lives of people now and for the next few generations.
It is a decision I can only contribute my opinion to, I think the decision should be based on how it would effect people seven generations from now. If it makes life better for them do it, otherwise don't.

A half a billion die every year from cancer, heart disease and strokes alone!
3 million die every year from starvation, drought and the diseases caused by it.
200,000 from natural disasters!
This god who Christians credit with creating and causing everything seems to love killing more people every second than the number of people that have ever been claimed to have been saved by his miracles!
Dangerously though Smallpox has not been wiped out and strains are kept in a number of laboratories around the world!

God didn't create smallpox. All diseases came as the result of Satan
taking dominion of the world after Adam and Eve lost it.
"For God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the Devil, because God was with him." Acts 10:38
He doesn't give people diseases, just so he can heal them.

how do you know that it was G-d that created small pox? the earth only became corrupt after Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying the Word of G-d. how much power did G-d give to Lucifer, who also afflicted Job with some sort of diseases. the Lord knew that since Adam and Eve disobedience that there would be sickness, death, as He set some herbs in the fields to cure our diseases, not sure where in the Old testament it is written, but I believe it could be in Leviticus.

We can destroy anything we choose, no matter if God created it. Science marches on and not even God can stop us. We are smarter than God. We will become more powerful than God can imagine. Blessed are the geeks for the Kingdom of Heaven is ours. We shall take it from God by force.
