How do I get started creating video games?
I have wanted to make video games since I was a kid, I'm 17 now. In college I plan to study game design and computer science, but I want to get a head start on it now. I've done some youtube tutorials but I was wondering if there are any good free or cheap things out there to help me start learning. I'm open to books, courses, tutorials.
I have a good understanding of Java and Android programming.

There should be technology courses in College and University. You can take the knowledge you learn there about the basics of programs and much more, then apply them towards, say, a mock videogame test you can make up.

You can make a very simple, web based game using javascript.
