Report: NFL teams "stalk" prospective players?

Employees of NFL teams are on record admitting that prospective draft picks are "stalked" as part of the vetting process. A former Tampa Bay employee has said the team staked out a college bar to see how often Justin Blackmon came in, and Tampa Bay also had an employee on a flight observing Jameis Winston's behavior.

In Blackmon's case, it was determined that he was in the bar too much and he was removed from the team's draft board.

Does anyone have a problem with this type of background investigation? Given the money teams invest in draftees, and the potential for disaster if a draft pick busts, I think this is probably a good strategy to employ.

It's a big investment. They want to see if their prospective draft pick is likely to do anything too stoopid when he thinks he isn't being watched.

At what point does investigating become stalking? I know I'd feel pretty creepy if a prospective employer had someone stake out my favorite public places to spy on me. What about after the guy is drafted? Is it okay for the club to continue to have people follow him and spy on him? Suppose they want to hire someone to approach him and offer drugs, or sex, just to see how he'll react?

I mean, we all think "It's fine." and "I don't blame them" as long as its happening to someone else. Would you feel different if it was happening to you? What if it wasn't a prospective employer, but just some random person who decided to follow you around. Is it okay, so long as it's only in public?

As long as it's in public places and not on private property then I'm okay with it. It is a little creepy though.

I don't see a problem with it whatsoever. These franchise and the communities they are a part of are making a huge investment. It's wise to do your due diligence

If you were investing your teams futrue on these guys I would think ya would want to know as much as ya can about them.

That being said some teams may take things to far

Probably true. Don't blame them with all the crap happening lately. With the age of social media and camera phones, this isn't surprising.

    That's probably right
