    Hi Esther Or,

I don't know how the Jews from Yemen spell Jerusalem. But I know that יֽרוּשְׁלֵם (yerushelem) or יֽרוּשָׁלֵם (yerushalem) were the primitive forms of the word.

Jerusalem was the capital of the Jebusites. King David made his own capital.

Later, the name became יֽרוּשָׁלַיִם (yerushalayim)

    אִם-אֶשְׁכָּחֵךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָם-- תִּשְׁכַּח יְמִינִי.(Ps 137, 5)

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. (Ps 137, 5)

Source(s): Im French. I have studied old Hebrew.
