I doubt that most people would have any idea that it's rude. Quakers is a very common name, and their preferred name (Friends) is so vague that if you say it, nobody knows what you're talking about.

It's rude? Really? I know people in that religion who freely call themselves Quakers. In fact, I can't ever remember one of them saying, "I'm in the Society of Friends." It's always "I'm a Quaker."

By the way, there are three Quaker Meetings within a 30 minute drive of where I live, so I know plenty of them.

It is true that Quakers no longer quake and Shakers no longer shake because they did not believe in having married sex but they did make nice furniture because what else was there to do. They at one time shaked and quaked under the power of God.

The Society of Friends is but one name. None of my Quaker Friend friends ever minded.
