My first thought was because they didn't want people to get distracted by their electronic devices during the services. Then I thought, maybe they could look something up relevant to the lesson. Then I remembered that my church actually does have free Wi-Fi. I use it to look up the materials that I never bother to bring.
As for the other churches, I would say it's either because of the distraction thing, or because it would be too costly to run (or maybe they do and you just don't have the password). Not every church can afford the mansions and the jets.

People may use the internet to show that most of what the pastor preaches is HS and aimed to extract money and favors

Worse than that, the congregation might get access to disturbing facts to ruin the sermon.
