How are the mentally ill suppose to defend themselves against abuse since they are automatically discredited as being unbelievable?

There's a reason the mentally ill make up a large percentage of victims. I was being abused as a teenager by my stepbrother. Tried to kill myself. The police officer told me I should have. Told me I was a mistake. Told me she'd cry herself to sleep at night if she'd created such a monster. Told me my mother didn't want me and I should have finished it. I finally broke into tears and she took the opportunity to do some awful sh*t. Told me she'd write that down as defiance. Crying. Still have a scar on my hand and a large four inch one on my ribcage.

The mentally ill are also often misdiagnosed and have symptoms chalked up to their mental illness.
