How is forced medication in psychiatric hospitals not a violation of human rights?
Psychiatric drugs actually change the natural chemical composition of ones brain. That is, by definition, brain damage.
Also, same can be said for labotomies or any physical surgery on the brain for the purposes of psychiatry.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics6 years agoWhy doednt civil rights adhere to patients detained in psychiatric hospitals?
I've been studying a lot of law and realized that people detained in psychiatric hospitals arent gauranteed civil rights.
For example, they are not allowed to see the evidence against them or are allowed to contest forced treatment upon them by a independent arbitrator (like a court of law which also includes come standard of solid evidence to make a conclusive diagnosis)
Such a thought is rather disturbing considering forced treatment can cause serious damage to ones harmony as well as possible brain/bodily damage that cannot be reversed.
So how is it possible that laws personified to psychiatric care circumvent civil rights??
I know civil rights are subjected to limitations, but there's suppose to be a balance rights of the individual and the rights of the a State ( society as a whole), the same way the criminal justice system strikes a balance towards the rights of an accused individual and the state.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoCan staff in psychiatric hospitals be sued for restraining patients if they misjudge a situation?
For example, if they think a patient in a psychiatric unit is dangerous because they walked to fast towards them and were emotional but never made any obvious threatening gestures, could mental health staff be sued for jumping the gun.
Could it be considered unlawful confinement?? The same way a cop who arrests someone without probable grounds could be criminally charged for holding someone against their will as of a stranger had done the same thing.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoShould the term "mental illness" not be used to label people who feel suicidal due to unbearable stress?
....as opposed to depressed/suicidal people who feel suicidal due to chemical imbalances in their brain.
To me, it just seems wrong labelling someone as "mentally ill" because they are overwhelmed with unbearable stress from real life-damaging problems as opposed to those who are suicidal because of an actual disorder in their brain/mind.

4 AnswersHistory7 years agoWhy do your taxes go up when you collect Employment Insurance (E.I) benefits, in Canada?
I know EI contributions are tax deductible since a portion of your earned income goes in to the EI fund, thereby reducing your take-home pay. However, you pay income tax on any EI benefits you collect, just as you would pay income tax off your pay cheque from work.
Also, since EI is separate from your taxes and has its own fund paid for by employees & employers additionally to taxes and other government contributions (like Canada Pension Plan), your tax dollars aren't paying back the EI fund in any way.
So unless there's something I'm missing, I don't understand why your taxes go up either the year you collected EI or the year after, on your next tax return??

1 AnswerCanada7 years agoHow does a Tax deductible work? 10 points for best answer.?
My job allows me to claim travel expenses on my income tax as a deductible since its a long commute to work. I can claim the cost of my daily ferry ticket to work (my place of work is on an island) as well as other travel costs.
So if I add up all my travel expenses to and from work, is the total amount multiplied by my Tax rate from whichever tax bracket I fall in to at the end of the year and then subtract that amount from my income? Is that how it works?
3 AnswersPersonal Finance7 years agoCan someone be denied bail if there's a chance that they may destroy evidence if they are released?
Can someone be denied bail for that reason alone??
Also, can people be denied bail if there's concern that two or more people may try to come up with a story that's not true to avoid being charged??
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics7 years agoIn Canada, when did the law change that required police to destroy fingerprints upon an acquittal?
My Dad was a policeman in the RCMP and he told me awhile ago that police are required by law to destroy someone's fingerprints if they haven't been convicted of an offence. (ie: charges were stayed, withdrawn, or an acquittal) and they don't have any other convictions on file.
However, now police are allowed to retain your fingerprints. They can only be destroyed if you request that they be destroyed and its up to the discretion of the police to do so or not.
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics7 years agoIf Aboriginals in Canada want equality then why do they want special treatment?
- Tax Exemptions
- Employment programs intended only for aboriginals.
- Special funding for aboriginal causes
- leniency in sentencing for those convicted of crimes ( like sentencing circles.
- The right to have their kids adopted only by aboriginal famines, if they put their kid(s) up for adoption.
And the list goes on.
So why should aboriginals be treated equally when they expect special treatment?

3 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoIn Canada, if someone is denied legal aid but still can't afford a lawyer, are charges likely to be thrown out?
....Or does a defendant have to represent themselves??
I know legal aid is meant to provide a lawyer for those who can't afford one but to qualified for legal aid, you have to make under a certain amount of money. In my province, its $1,410/month. If you make over that you don't qualify for legal aid even if you really can't afford one.
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoWas the Treaty of Versailles unfair to Germany?
It seems like Germany was wronged by being forces to sign the Treaty of Versailles for a couple reasons.
A) Germany wasn't the sole cause of the War, nor did they start the War. They simply supported their ally Austria-Hungary.
B) When they supported Austria-Hungary, their ally had a good reason to invade Serbia: To catch the Man responsible for the assassination of their Monarch after Serbia refused to hand him over and offered him protection. ( Just like the US invasion of Afghanistan over Osama Bin Laden)
6 AnswersPolitics7 years ago10 Points for best answer: How do I reset the background on my iPod Touch 5th generation?
When I set up my new iPod touch 5th generation, I set it up with iCloud, so all my apps from my previous iPod touch 4th generation went straight on my new iPod.
I had the original background that came on the iPod 4th generation of the ocean with the ripple affect of the waves ( which I liked) until I selected another background. Now I can't go back because the original background from iOS 6 isn't available on iOS 7.
And I don't want to download a picture from google images. If rather reset the background
2 AnswersSoftware7 years agoWhy do some Parents still smoke when they have kids to take care of? (in financial terms)?
Aside from the obvious health problems of second-hand smoke, isn't it irresponsible to smoke when you have kids because its money wasted that could if been spent on their needs & occasional wants??
Kinda selfish ain't it?
