In Canada, when did the law change that required police to destroy fingerprints upon an acquittal?
My Dad was a policeman in the RCMP and he told me awhile ago that police are required by law to destroy someone's fingerprints if they haven't been convicted of an offence. (ie: charges were stayed, withdrawn, or an acquittal) and they don't have any other convictions on file.
However, now police are allowed to retain your fingerprints. They can only be destroyed if you request that they be destroyed and its up to the discretion of the police to do so or not.
