Actually, the restrictions are not on food stamps. They are on TANF - welfare. In addition to including all the food restrictions and the rule against using your welfare to pay for Caribbean cruises, they require you to withdraw no more than $25 a day. You tell me - how many one day withdrawals would they have to make to pay rent of $400? And since every transaction is charged a fee, how much more than $400 will you actually be paying for rent? And since it would take 16 days to collect it all, what are they supposed to live in for those 16 days, since they have to save it up for rent?

This is just the typical "punish the poor" tactics that high handed people who have never been poor put on people because they are selfish.

Pretty much every state does to a degree. Almost everywhere as far as I know you can't purchase things at grocery stores like cigarettes and booze with food stamps. The seafood ban is a bit odd though. I understand that it's rather expensive and considered "fancy", but it's not like they're buying poison. It IS food after all, and like all seafood it's actually quite good for you when compared to other meats.

It's much easier to attack and demonize the powerless instead of going after the Banksters for the fraudulent practices in-which they received tens of billions in a taxpayer financed bailout! And most ironically, the Kansas foodstamps recipients have an additional bank fee attached to each withdrawal. So, who are the real crooks and victims?

Sure, there are some people guilty of fraud; but instead of going after those people, a broad punitive approach has been enacted which fails to address and stem the actual problem. And the Banksters get to profit off the impoverished state of the impoverished! This vicious cycle of poverty has been exacerbated by the departure of US jobs and influx of un-documented workers largely hired by White employers. So, let's not pretend as if every person of color has chosen poverty over prosperity - given the often violent suppression of their right to self-determination for over 340 years!

No sea food ( lobster specifically) steak or energy drinks will be allowed to be purchased with a food card.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Is this suggestion headed in the right direction?

I'm not on food stamps- no one buys anything for me.

If it's for food, then it should only be spent for food. Not swapped around like dollar bills.

The premise being that SNAP program recipients are spend their benefits on 'luxury' food items?

First they have to show me how a family of 4 receiving the max SNAP allowance of about $580 a month can afford luxury food items.

Good for Kansas, every state should set strict standards similar to WIC

Wow, Kansas has a good idea with this.

I strongly agree that food stamps should be limited to only a small selection of foods.

No junk food, no energy drinks, and NO LOBSTER!

Most states have some regulations. They want to make sure it is not wasted.
