The Great Depression (US): Trends or events that helped to weaken economic foundation during the 1920s?

    Sometime around then, the U.S. Treasury Dept. printed money far beyond the amount of gold in the Treasury to back up the paper money. It thus became just THAT--PAPER MONEY--and therefore WORTHLESS! I was born in 1929, and grew up during the Great Depression! Not a fun time for the adults. But Americans are resourceful and hard workers.
