Jeep 4.0 low oil pressure, rebuilt, with new head, new everything, measured clearances, need to find where thrust bearing should go?
When I rebuilt it, I could not remember where the thrust bearing was located, but the oil holes would only line up with the thrust bearing on either the 3rd, or 5th connecting rod(I put it in the third). I am getting no noise when I get it started, it will run, and have pressure, till it gets warmed up, then drops to -0-. I had the block cleaned and bored, I have good piston compression. There was antifreeze in the oil, cause the steel head gasket that came with the kit blew, causing antifreeze to leak into the oil, I replaced the head gasket with a composite, and now no problems there. Next, I will drop the oil pan, and re-check all of the clearances.
I re-checked all of the lower end, everything looks good, I have no noises coming from the engine, it starts every-time, but when warm and at idle, it sinks down to -0- and I'm afraid of running the engine with no pressure. Should I just take it out, and push the engine, maybe it will hold pressure? But I think it could have been the thrust bearing being in the wrong place.
Needing to find the correct position of the thrust bearing, its a 97 Jeep grand cherokee limited.
Opps, its the third MAIN BARRING!!

Are you talking about a crankshaft main bearing???
The main bearings are put in order in the box they come in, the same as the order in the engine.
You can LOOK at the crankshaft and SEE which main is ground on the sides, for the thrust bearing to contact on!!!
How could you not know where it goes? Do you understand what a thrust bearing is?
You're also supposed to "seat" the thrust bearing. Then you're supposed to measure the crankshaft endplay. .0015 to .0065"
What do you mean the 3rd or 5th connecting rod? The connecting rods connect to the pistons! The crankshaft has "main journals" and "connecting rod journals". The block has "main bearings". The connecting rods have "connecting rod bearings". Are you talking about the 3rd or 5th MAIN BEARING???!!
I have looked online through several Jeep forums. I have seen people referring to the 4.0L engine thrust bearing location as #1, #2 and #3 main!! This is retarded! How can there be so many ignorant "mechanics"?
You're afraid of running the engine with no oil pressure? What a marvelous idea!
I'm pulling my hair out!
