What are people from Maine like?

Are they shy, quiet, like their privacy, etc.? Is there a real difference between the northerners and southerners?

The Southerners (mostly York and Cumberland county) are much more in-line with people that you'd fine in parts of Boston, eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and coastal New Hampshire, based on the fact that we're right on the water and share many cultural traits. Northerners are more distant and typically separate themselves from us in the south (we're not "True Mainers" in their eyes). This is also why southern Maine has always been considered part of Massachusetts by people in the state. As for personality, we're just like everyone else, accept you'd probably be more apt to befriend someone from southern Maine than from northern Maine (not only with personality, but also with language, as there are many French Canadians in northern Maine).

    Source(s): I'm from southern Maine!
