why so many came?

So when I saw my grandpa having difficulty breathing this morning, I called 911 for an ambulance. I told the dispatcher I need an ambulance to the hospital. Then minutes later, police car, fire truck, and ambulance all came. Why so many? Why did a fire truck come also?

In many cases fire departments are able to respond to a scene sooner than an ambulance. Cities generally have more fire halls than ambulance stations. Firefighters usually have some degree of medical training, whether that be advanced first aid or right up to paramedic. Firefighters arriving as first responders can start medical aid before the paramedics on the ambulance arrive.

They may not have a good communication system between various departments. Police might be used to direct traffic so the ambulance can get close and get out quickly, the fire department might come because in some towns they have the only oxygen or resuscitation devices. A lot depends on where you are and what they do or carry with them.
