    The cistern usually refers to the storage tank that the water goes into. As these are pretty big and expensive to ship, they are usually made locally, or within trucking distance.

    A deep well pump is what you are looking for to pump the water out of the hole in the ground to the cistern. There are a lot of variables to setting up such a pump system for your well. Talk to a well pump company in your area or a well driller to get such information or the phone number of a company near you who can help.

    A very standard submersible well pump will work just fine. They will pump from several hundred feet below ground. You need to determine the water volume and pressure and then determine the horsepower of the pump to meet these requirements, based on the manufacturer's pump curves for the depth the pump and the range of water level in the cistern. The link below is to a Gould submersible which is a very common pump for this applicaiton. It has a built in foot valve.
