Is there a connection between: The Freemasons, The Priory of Sion, and The Illuminati?
I'm writing a story, in which my tritagonist is on a journey to find the organization known as 'The Freemasons'. The man who sends him on this journey casually describes them as "also being known as 'The Priory of Sion' or 'The Illuminati'.
I know there's a lot of conspiratory mythology in these groups, but I'd like to know if it would be correct to just group them altogether?
A brief explanation of each would be helpful but if I'm wrong, no harm.

No - but if it's a story, you can make up anything you want. And there's plenty of lunatics who probably believe in these huge conspiracy things anyway.
So........ this is why it's called "creative writing". Look at the big gaggle of lunatics that got all upset with "The Da Vinci Code". There's lots of people out there who really can't (or won't) separate fantasy from fact.

The "Priory of Sion" is a hoax created by a Frenchman in the 1960s; there never really was such an organization, except in fiction.
Freemasons are an organization with roots in the late Middle Ages. Their practices vary by country, but they are somewhat similar to other fraternal orders like the Odd Fellows or Loyal Order of the Moose--the Freemasons are just more secretive about their rituals and meetings.
The Illuminati were a secret group founded in the 18th century and soon banned. Various groups have claimed the name "Illuminati," but the original group does not exist anymore, and all the conspiratorial accusations are pretty nonsensical.
For your story, I don't think it would make any sense to lump them in together. It would probably make people take you a lot less seriously.

No.
The Freemasons exist, the others do not.
There are about 6 million Freemasons in the world, simply put, they are a charitable fraternity, they raise vast sums of money for good causes.
Freemasonry is not secret, masonic buildings can be found in almost every town, contact details are in the phone book and most lodges have web sites.
Freemasonry is not a religious organisation,it does not get involved in politics, illegal activities, plots or conspiracies-there is no evidence to the contrary.
I am a Freemason

Going to be a very short story, "He went to the Yellow Pages and looked up Freemason".
